During the meeting, Councilman Kip Tyner expressed concerns about the legality of the machine, saying, "I got some calls about ammunition being sold in grocery stores, vending machines, the vending machines. Is that? I mean, I thought it was a lie. I thought it was a joke - but it's not."

The Tuscaloosa City Council's legal department has since clarified that the machines are legal provided they are installed in retail businesses with appropriate zoning. However, the manager of the Fresh Value grocery store on McFarland Blvd. said that the store removed the machine on July 3rd due to a lack of sales.
